[fun] climate change and business

Delivered by John Doerr, a venture capitalist.

we have been thinking about ways as small as asking every individual to reduce their use of plastic bags to alleviate the environment changes. however,
corporations are the real dominators of this society. their power of changing the world is well recorded in this documentary. just like the starbucks near the great wall (there was one in the forbidden city before, but it was closed down), there are profits. how can people resist the seduction?

one of the impressive example was how Wal-mart's small change in designing its shopping mall, like painting its roof all white, embedding more roof-windows to reduce its consumption of energy, and that leads to a big reduction instantly.

actually, one big thing that we can think about is how to MAKE the LINK between businesses and climate change issues, which is also about business innovation.

enjoy^^

it is very impressive!

i keep on thinking the sentence.."it is not enough" after watching the video!

but one thing i am not quite sure whether it is right or not. it seems that green advocates always urge people to change light bulbs. but are we actually creating more rubbish if our existing bulbs are definitely workable but we decide to change it?

recently, there are more and more people using mac book in school. yea, they are really "posh". honestly, i also think that it would be great if i have one (though i realise i become an idiot when i am in front of it =.=). but what would happen to our old heavy lap-tops if everyone buy a new mac book?... rubbish bin.

to me, sometimes, using "environmental friendly products" does not really help the environment at all.

the logic is still the same - pursuing something "new" which suits to the trend. we still keep on getting new things and dumping old things.

yves, i agree with you in some degree.

however, if we put this problem into a longer time frame, then it will be better to invent greener products. otherwise, we'll keep producing old harmful items (because there is always some reason for which we need to buy new products), and their accumulation will increase the negative effect on the environment.

so why don't we start change now? early start, early stop of the environmental harmful products.

it is just that we need to keep an eye on how to deal with the rubbish~
